Don't forget the Revengeance Valentine's Ride is tonight.
I would like to welcome Tyler. He has been bestowed the title 'Honorary Member of Revengeance'. For his efforts he will be granted a Ph.D. in Revengeanceology.
Deep thoughts…. RAGBRAI dreaming edition.
Hmmmmm…. I wonder if my ass could be more sore. I wonder if I could eat one more brat. I wonder who would I call to bail me out of jail. I wonder if I'm going to be crazy enough next year to do this again. If so, I wonder what kind of crazy I will see. Now, where did I put my Gatorade?
See, crazy is found in the craziest places. Looks like he keeps his chapstick in the front of his shorts. Also, it's a hard decision as to who is better endowed
Youth definitely has its privileges. One guess who just defiled a Kybo. One guess to which one wants to but doesn't have the energy.
Uh, yeah…. I really could of done without seeing that. Is this what people do when the are drunk at 9 am? The guy on the left really has the Chris Farley “I'm on my way to the gym” pose down to an art form.
Truthfully it'll be great to see this crazy group again. The more crazy the merrier.
Just who is this masked man?
Possessing super-human strength and able to destroy chainrings at will.
OH MY GOD, THE HUMANITY!!!!!!
Everyone is posting their emotional recap of this years ride. I thought it would be better if I listed some of the actual thoughts that went through my head during the ride. Here is what I can recall:
Mile 0: I truly doubt that it's going to rain all day. I better slap on some sunscreen just in case.
Mile 5: This is awesome. The road is full of bicyclists. The riders are having fun. I bet the weather will clear up.
Mile 7.3: Nothing better than a mouth full of gravel in the morning. At least I'll get my calcium.
Mile 10: Well, that got the legs warmed up.
Mile 28: For some reason these raindrops taste kind of sweet
Mile 28.1: Oh wait, that's drops of snot from my nose.
Mile 38.5: Sweet baby Jesus, there's Preston.
Mile 39: This is awful. The road is full of bicyclist carnage. The riders are all crying. I think the weather is somehow getting worse.
Mile 39.2: Half my team just dropped. 75% of the other riders are dropping. Am I an idiot by continuing? If so then there are other idiots as well. Let's roll.
Mile 41.5: I swear to God if that dog gets anywhere near me I'm going to kick it in the face.
Mile 45.3: Well, that got the legs warmed up again.
Mile 52: This has to be the worse gravel road on the face of the planet. Loose. No lines. I want to cry.
Mile 54: This is where the head wind starts. Maybe I should just turn of my brain for a while.
Mile 64.3: Sorry, I don't know my number. Sorry, I also don't know my name. You wouldn't happen to have a beer would you?
Mile 64.31: Thank God there's food, water & some friends to regroup with. Let's down some goo and knock this bitch out.
Mile 68.5: Well, that got the legs warmed up…. again.
Mile 76.5: I wonder where the cherry grove is at in Cherry Grove. Hell, I wonder if anyone even lives in Cherry Grove.
Mile 77.5: Last stretch of head wind. I knew all of those miles in RASC draft lines would come in handy some day.
Mile 80.6: At least it washed the mud off my shoes.
Mile 86.1: That has to be about the last hill.
Mile 89.5: Ok, a left turn. Didn't we turn right last year?
Mile 91: Ok, a turn. Counting down, now at mile 94.5.
Mile 91.1: Oh shit. That doesn't look fun. I wish we had turned right like last year.
Mile 91.6: That has to be about the last hill.
Mile 94.5: Ok, another turn. Wait, didn't we already have mile 94.5?
Mile 95.4: That has to be the last hill.
Mile 96: Awesome, there's the water tower!!! €¦… Shit, still 3 or 4 miles to go.
Mile 99.1: Oh my Lord I AM DONE. There's Chris. I don't know if I want to give him a hug or punch him in the face.
Mile 99.2: Well, that was fun. I'm covered in mud, I can't feel my left hand & I've just had the time of my life. I can't wait to do it again in the fall. The weather can't be any worse.
Leave a comment if you have any of your own deep thoughts from the Almanzo 2011 ride.
Because of the wonderful work being done by Anna and Ilsa (aka The Planning Committee), we have an Easter Ride for young and old alike (aka bring the kids) to enjoy on Saturday, April 23rd.
Here are the details:
Meet at Eric and Anna's a 10 am for drinks and snacks
Ride to an undisclosed secret location to search for the spoils that the Easter Bunny is custom delivering for us
After the hunt we will then ride to Jeremy's house for a pot luck
For the food you can either drop it off at Jeremy's house that morning or you can bring it to Eric and Anna's. There will be a car there to transport it to the final location.
If you need more details send a note on the Contact Us page
I don't know which would be Ron's undoing…. The PBR or the pink sunglasses?
I've slowly been becoming more and more apathetic towards professional cycling over the last few years. I had grown sick of the constant failed drug tests and the “you doped”/”no I didn't”/”I know you were molested as a child”/”you disagree with Lance so we will destroy you” attacks between the cyclists, coaches and sponsors. Because of all of the bad news always overshadowing the good, I was starting to not enjoy the actual sport any longer.
But for some reason the recent Alberto “El Pistolero del Toro” Contador saga has drawn me back in to the fold. I don't really know why. I think it started for me at the very beginning with “The Steak”.
Most everyone that follows cycling knows that Spanish riders (pro and amateur) are among the biggest violators of the doping regulations. I mean come on, one of the biggest (if not the biggest) doping scandals in cycling history occurred in Spain. So when the news came out that Contador failed a drug test during the Tour de France the world of cycling noticed but by no means was it shocked or even surprised.
But then the excuses started. I didn't think anything would ever beat the Landis 'shot of whiskey' defense, but a steak? A wholesome, juicy and delicious hunk of bovine? Now how could you blame a steak? That's like being angry at your best friend, your dog and Bill Murray all at the same time. From that point, I knew that this was going to be legendary.
In case you're not up to date, here are some articles, tweets and comments that I have found to be informative and humorous.
Tweet from VeloRacer5: Contador cleared of doping charges. Landis to apply for Spanish citizenship.
Tweet from FakeUCI: We plan to announce randomized beef testing just as soon as we figure out how to get a bull to pee in a cup.
An overview of the current situation and how Spain refuses to punish their most popular athlete and favorite son.

A good opinion about the silly-ness of the steak defense.

And last, but not least, how the Spanish meat producers (Asoprovac) are reacting to be thrown under the bus by Contador, the Spanish Prime Minister and the Spanish cycling federation (RFEC). Note: Use of clenbuterol was banned in Europe in 1996, so blaming a steak is also accusing the meat producers of engaging in illegal practices.

Where is this all heading? Who knows, but I'm sure that it will drag on for months or maybe even years. Either way it's a lot more exciting than the Tour of Oman or the Volta ao Algarve, so for now I will just sit back and enjoy saga as it unfolds.
OLE!
Are just made to be manipulated.

I had a great time at the 2011 Dickie Scramble and I'm positive everyone else there had a great time as well.
Drew and Laura hosted a spectacular event and I will do everything in my power to encourage them to continue organizing the ride every year. Maybe I'll just mark February 11, 2012 as the date for the next edition of the Dickie Scramble.
I stole some of Laura's pics and posted them on the Media page. If you want to see her entire album it is located at:

I also want to send my heart felt thanks the support crew for the ride. Their energy was yet another reason this ride was so grand.
It's funny how our brains work. I hear that Geo Revengeance has dropped his crank, and this is immediately where my mind goes. Go figure….
I guess at least he's not a sensitive artist.
